I am the historian of Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy. I am writing a history of the institute that attempts to understand it within its local, state, national, and global contexts, but especially as a part of Rice University. Before working at the Baker Institute, I was a postdoctoral research associate in the Woodson Research Center, where I worked on questions related to the Task Force on Slavery, Segregation, and Racial Injustice.

I am trained as a historian of slavery and the slave trade in the nineteenth-century United States South, especially the Lower Mississippi River Valley.

I received my PhD from Rice University’s history department in April 2020.
